Earlier this week, Jess and I paid a visit to her boyfriend Gregg at Comfort. He's a mean bartender with a love for whiskeys.
Gregg first poured us a taste of the Ardbeg Corryvreckan, because he wants us to be happy. It is serious. Thank goodness the pimento cheese came soon after that.
GREGG'S SMOKY ROB ROY
1 ounce Ardbeg Corryvreckan (though any smoke bomb single malt Islay will do)
1 ounce good quality blended Scotch (to round out the smokiness and bring some sanity to the proceedings)
1 ounce sweet Vermouth
A couple dashes of bitters
A lemon peel
Shake the first four ingredients with ice, and strain into a glass. Char that lemon peel and throw it in. Take a sip, and now you know why I was too content to worry about picture taking.
