HOLIDAY SIPPING: THE ULTIMATE BLOODY MARY BAR

The Ultimate Bloody Mary Bar | Scotch and Nonsense
Confession: I am not a big breakfast cocktail fan. Mimosas are too sweet for my taste, and while I enjoy the occasional bloody Mary, I tend to be pretty picky about them. Restaurant bloodies tend to be all heavy tomato juice, cheap vodka (hello hangover), and zero kick. No thanks.

So this new year's day, I'm putting together a bloody Mary bar so we can all be as picky as we like. The base is good vodka, a tasty mix, and an Old Bay rim on the glass. From there, I'll add horseradish, hot sauce, celery, and pickled everything.

Go ahead and start 2016 out right.

THE ULTIMATE BLOODY MARY

Lemon
Old Bay seasoning, or a mix of salt, cayenne, and paprika for rimming the glass
2 ounces vodka (I've got Tito's on hand today)
Bloody Mary mix (Texas Beach is mighty fine)
Prepared horseradish, optional
A variety of hot sauces (I love this Snake Oil sauce from the guys at Woodberry Kitchen, and we always pick up some Gita's Gourmet when we're in Charleston)
Pickled everything (I've got some cornichons and smokra today)
Celery

Rim glass with lemon juice, then swirl in a plate of Old Bay or salt mix. Fill glass with ice, add vodka and Bloody mix. Add sauces and accoutrements to taste.

Here's to a bloody good new year!

In Canada we drink bloody marys, but you will see a Caesar on a drink list more often. Basically, the same... we use Clamato instead of Tomato and hot sauce instead of horseradish. I am also not usually a fan of breakfast drinks... but every so often...

I've never heard of a Caesar! I do like clamato, and you know I love my hot sauces so I'll have to give this one a shot. Thanks!

When I lived in the U.K., I had to get clamato juice sent to me just to prove to my friends that it existed. LOL.
