FRIDAY SIPPING: THE LEMONGRASS DAIQUIRI

Lemongrass daiquiri cocktail recipe | Scotch and Nonsense
Oh, thank goodness. It's Friday. I'm capping off this week of delicious weather with a daiquiri. Not one of those sticky sweet frozen affairs. Those monstrosities put me off daiquiris for years until I realized they had little to do with what a daiquiri could and should be. Namely, tart, a teensy bit sweet, and shaken.
I tend to think a daiquiri done right is perfect as is, but today's cocktail gets a little fancy with some lemongrass simple syrup. Flavored simple syrups are a crazy easy way to add some depth or flavor to a cocktail. I mean, it's right there in the name. I've made a big batch of the stuff and will be packing that along with a bottle of rum and plenty of limes to take to the river this weekend. A springtime weekend at the river with friends and daiquiris sounds like just the thing.

LEMONGRASS DAIQUIRI

2 ounces silver rum
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 ounce lemongrass simple syrup (see recipe below)
Lemongrass stalk to garnish

Combine first three ingredients in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with lemongrass stalk.

Cheers from the river! What's everyone's plan this weekend?
Lemongrass simple syrup recipe - perfect for iced tea, lemonade, or a lemongrass daiquiri | Scotch and Nonsense
LEMONGRASS SIMPLE SYRUP

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
4 stalks lemongrass, roughly chopped

Combine sugar, water, and about half the lemongrass in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let simmer, still stirring occasionally to dissolve sugar, for about 10 minutes. When sugar is dissolved and syrup thickened, pour into a jar and add remaining lemongrass. Let cool and refrigerate.
