So today I present to the Bartender's Choice. Or, to be more precise, Matt at Eleven Madison Park's choice. It's dark and bitter with a hint of anise. More than strong enough to stand up to a tough work week. Thanks Matt, for pouring the drink of the week, and for patiently putting up with me.
(MATT'S) BARTENDER'S CHOICE
Splash Fernet Branca
1 ounce dark rum (I went with the Trigo again, but any good dark rum will do)
1 ounce rye (I'm using my Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye today)
1/2 ounce amaro (Amaro is a bitter, herbal Italian liqueur. Campari is a familiar one, but for this cocktail you should try Amaro Nardini or Amaro Nonino)
Pour a splash of Fernet into an Old Fashioned glass and let sit. Fill a mixing glass with ice, and add rum, rye, and amaro. Stir to combine and chill. Pour excess Fernet from glass so just a small amount remains, and strain the rum mixture into the glass.
