We took advantage of the rainy holiday weekend to do some much needed housework. Most of this was the less than fascinating work of fixing electrical outlets and weeding the sidewalk, but we did make some major progress in the dining room. We now have a rug! And paintings! And narrowly avoided disaster when hanging said paintings!
Hanging these paintings in a grid was no small task, and involved a fair amount of trial and error. We managed to hang the first painting a good two inches below what we'd marked, and it immediately tilted to a 45 degree angle, and I thought we were done for. We persevered (after I took a quick break to shout serenity now a few times), and now each painting is in its proper place... if you don't look too closely. You can see that the new rug has Brewster's seal of approval, and that's really all one needs.
You knew the dining room would have plenty of whiskey. The crystal is on a silver tray that belonged to my great-grandmother. When I called my grandmother to tell her that Edward and I were engaged, she said, "Oh good, I can give you my mother-in-law's silver tray." Happy to oblige, Mémé.
I am very happy the different blue hues and textures in this room.
There's still more work to be done, but this room has made some major strides. I'm on the lookout for a new bar, for one thing. The red bar was a DIY project of mine years ago, and while I'm while I'm still fond of it, I feel like the time has come for a more grown up piece. I also wouldn't mind trading out our super basic black frames for something a bit more ornate. This room deserves some statement items.
Welcome! I'm Arielle, and this is Scotch & Nonsense. Whether you've come for the home projects, the recipes, or the cocktails, I'm thrilled you're here and I hope you'll stay a bit.
