The total classic. Birch logs are so lovely, and they're the perfect blend of form and function. Well, at least they look like a blend of form and function. If you do manage to find some birch logs for your fireplace, I don't recommend actually using them for firewood. They're too pretty.
Because of our teensy little rooms, this isn't an option in our house. But! Maybe your house isn't teensy, in which case you should definitely consider this. I always like occasional seating for entertaining, and it's all the better when you can find an oddball piece like this guy from the San Francisco Decorator Showcase.
Another version of that form and function look. The wild branches and logs in a variety of shapes and sizes look so good in this refined space. Just such a cool contrast. I may have to give this a shot in our living room.
I honestly hesitated to include this because you know how strongly I feel about proper book placement. A fireplace is no place for books! But does this look cool? It really does.
So I looove this look. The logs have the shape of, well, logs, but the material is so unexpected and cool. It's striking without completely forgoing the fireplace look by, say, putting a basket of seashells in there. I've yet to find selenite logs in a size I want for a price I want, but I'm willing it to happen.
